Poland to Czech Republic

In 1940, the Auschwitz Concentration Camp opened in former Polish army barracks. Prisoners were made to build additional barracks to house their increasing numbers. In 1945 as the Soviet army approached, the Nazis ordered the camp to be abandoned and the wooden buildings burned down. Only the barracks' chimneys remain.
